Our Story Unleashed
Therapy K9 Academy was born from compassion, curiosity, and a desire to make a difference.
Over a decade ago, founder June Schnabl spent countless hours visiting loved ones in rehabilitation centers and hospitals. During those long visits, she noticed two things: the overwhelming sense of boredom and, more importantly, the low morale among patients.
Determined to understand how to improve their emotional well-being, June began asking an important question—why aren’t there more therapy dogs in these facilities? The answer was disheartening: there simply weren’t enough trained volunteers and therapy dog teams to meet the need.
That realization sparked a mission.
June began researching therapy dog training programs and decided to take action with the help of her loyal companion, Pooch—a 7-year-old whippet who initially showed little interest in the process. With patience, dedication, and expert training, June and Pooch successfully completed their certification. Soon, the once-hesitant Pooch couldn’t wait to put on his vest and bring comfort, joy, and connection to those in need.
Our Mission
Today, Therapy K9 Academy in Katy, Texas is dedicated to helping dog owners transform their pets into confident, certified therapy dogs. Our mission is simple:
to bridge the gap between dogs and their owners while impacting communities through the healing power of K9 companionship.
June’s professional credentials include training through Animal Behavior College, and she is a proud member of the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). Our academy is fully licensed and insured, ensuring a safe and professional training environment.
